Easter Sunrise Service

The Easter Sunday early morning service is to be held on Sunday 16th April 2017, at 6.30am near the pier...followed by breakfast at Victoria Methodist Church.

We look forward to seeing anyone who is able to join us.

The LOVE WESTON team have been encouraging local Christians to pray and care for their streets since 2006.  During that time, many people have signed up to pray for families and businesses situated in roads surrounding where they live, where they work or where they sense there is need.  There have been numerous positive outcomes of this project which is ongoing.

Many of us are already aware about the needs of Weston General Hospital.  The headlines in today's news highlight the desperate shortage of beds nationally.  The list of challenges that hospitals are tackling is long - reduced funding, specialist and nursing staff shortages, the high cost of temporary / bank staff, ageing population, Australian flu and norovirus to name a few.  The impacts on patients in Weston have become obvious - night-time closure of A and E, appointments re-scheduled, specialty treatment / operations re-located to other hospitals in Bristol / Taunton.  We understand that this has also had a major impact on the workload and morale of the WGH staff and the ambulance service.

LOVE WESTON sense that this is a critical situation, and that it would be apt to create an opportunity for concerned local Christians to come together - without a specific mandate or solution - to hear about and then PRAY into the issues and challenges affecting the services that our local hospital provides.

The spirit of the gathering will be very much about bringing positive and constructive prayer for the various aspects of this complex situation.

This is NOT a political / lobbying rally or a public debate.  Others are consulting, lobbying, running petitions and making political viewpoints.  That is not what this meeting is about.

We believe that 'Prayer Changes Things!' If you care about Weston General Hospital - join us and be part of these informed prayers for positive outcomes for the benefit of all at the hospital and our community.

The format for the evening will be that invited guest speakers will briefly present key facts, information and opinions - we will then take time to listen to God as we pray into the situation in small groups.  We will meet cafe style, around coffee tables.  There will be times of praise and worship, led by Salv and Noelle Lomanto and friends. Refreshments will be served from 7pm. Entry is Free - we will take up a Collection towards costs.

Join us on Wednesday 10th January 2018, 7.30pm at Emmanuel Church, Oxford Street, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1TN.

We are encouraged to hear that some church and cell / home group leaders are considering re-convening their existing meetings and joining us for the evening where possible.

There will also be a short presentation on LOVE WESTON and the opportunity to sign up to pray and care for a street in the Weston-super-Mare area.

PLEASE HELP! - In view of the urgency, we are planning this a week ahead of the meeting date - and need your help to promote the Prayer Flash Mob.  We don't have much of a budget - so it's over to you to help us get the message out.  Please forward, share, like, tag, phone, announce at church / home groups, shout!! - to inform other concerned Christians about the evening.

Churches Together Emergency Night Shelter

Churches in Weston-super-Mare have come together at short notice to provide a temporary but very necessary solution for people living on the town’s streets in the extremely cold weather conditions by opening an ad-hoc night shelter.

Barry Edwards from the Friends Meeting House (Quakers), in High Street, Weston-super-Mare said: ‘It all came together very quickly. Last night was our first night. Ten homeless people responded to our offer of hospitality and somewhere safe and warm to sleep. They were all grateful for the welcome and especially the cooked breakfast.’

‘We are grateful to Hands Of Change and Weston Homeless who donated food, blankets and hot water bottles,‘ said Barry.
The shelter was opened on Tuesday 27th February 2018 at short notice in association with Churches Together in Weston-super-Mare and District and will run from 8pm to 8am during the period of sub-zero night-time temperatures. It can accommodate up to 12 people.

Gary Hoare, President of Churches Together said: ‘It’s amazing what can happen in just 12 hours! Barry and I met Tuesday morning and hatched a plan… and by 7pm the doors of the Friends Meeting House were open to receive our guests. We are ultimately doing this to prevent people from needlessly suffering and potentially dying on our town’s streets. I am really pleased how this has come together and grateful for the willingness of local people to respond to a potentially critical situation at the drop of a hat. We extend special thanks to the Friends Meeting House for hosting us.’

‘This also illustrates the real need for a more permanent night shelter in the town. We are in discussion with various agencies and local concerned people with that in mind as well as Weston Town Council. The longer-term solution will likely need a more substantial budget and a professional manager along with a team of volunteers to make it happen,’ said Gary.

The Friends Meeting House is on the corner of High Street and Oxford Street in Weston’s town centre. North Somerset Council have notified their Street Wardens, the Street Pastors and emergency services about the temporary shelter.

Anyone wishing to support this or forthcoming Churches Together projects practically can contact Barry Edwards and Gary Hoare on 01934 624091. Donations to Churches Together Weston-super-Mare and District can be dropped in at Life Bookshop, 13 The Centre.  For a broader local perspective, search for the ‘Weston Super Mare Homeless’ group on Facebook.
