Christians of all ages are invited to join in four united worship and outreach events this Easter!
'Easter Hope! - 2024 is about sharing the message of Hope that is found in the Easter Story and the new life that we have in Jesus,' said Emily Cumberbatch, Acting President of Churches Together in Weston-super-Mare and district. 'We are co-ordinating three events - a March of Hope on Good Friday, A worship & testimony outreach on Easter Saturday and a Sunrise Vigil on Easter Sunday morning and we would encourage anyone who can, to join us!'
Our united Easter March of Hope on Good Friday 29th March 2024 is a timely opportunity for believers to share the message of Hope that Easter brings.
We will gather just before 12 noon outside Emmanuel Church, Oxford Street, Weston-super-Mare.
The Route - Those gathered will walk behind a cross down Oxford Street towards the seafront. We shall cross to the opposite (north side) Oxford Street pavement at Nandos, continuing walking towards the seafront. We will cross over Marine Parade and then turn right, walking along the promenade to the Grand Pier. We will then turn right down Regent Street and left along the High Street to the Italian Gardens.
We arrive at the Italian Gardens in time for an act of worship for Good Friday from about 12.30pm. The service will be led by local church leaders with worship led by local singers and musicians.
If it is raining very badly, we will forego the walk and meet for the act of worship at Emmanuel Church at 12 noon.

The Worle and outlying churches will be holding individual services before processing to a joint Good Friday service of witness outside the Co-Op at Worle High Street at 11.15am. Hot cross buns will be enjoyed as participants mingle at the end!
Our friends from Destiny Church are at the Italian Gardens in Weston town centre on Easter Saturday 8th April. Their worship team will be presenting Praise & Worship songs between 11am & 3pm and will be reaching out and sharing God’s love. The Destiny Team along with Benny Bunny will also be handing out free Easter treats! All welcome! #DestinyEaster24
Destiny's vibrant worship and uplifting presentation of the message of Easter draws many people as they are about their shopping and taking walks!
We highly recommend setting your alarm clock so that you are able to join us for the Easter Sunday Sunrise Service which is to be held on Sunday 31st March 2024, at 6.30am, on the Sea Front opposite Carlton Street. The service will be led by Rev Craig Philbrick, of St Paul's Church, Walliscote Road, Weston. This joyful gathering will be followed by bacon rolls (and a non-meat alternative) on the seafront, kindly provided by St Paul's Church.

"How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!" (Psalm 133:1)
We have so much to be thankful for as we look back on 2023 with grateful hearts!
On behalf of the Executive Committee of CTWD, I would like to thank each of our local Church leaders and your congregations for participating in our joint acts of worship and witness, vigils for Ukraine and other community focused initiatives this year.
The Good Friday and Easter Sunday Sunrise Services in Weston and Worle were blessed with good weather and were an apt opportunity to witness to the message of Hope that we have in Jesus through the resurrection! We are thankful to Rev Craig Philbrick and the team at St Paul’s Church for coordinating Easter Sunday morning and the delicious hot breakfast rolls!
Deacon Gary Hoare retired as President this year after several years of leadership. We honoured his dedicated contributions with a presentation and a public vote of thanks on Good Friday. Emily Cumberbatch (Locking Castle Church) is our acting President.
Ukraine - We have continued to gather to pray for Ukraine, both in the town centre and across the local churches. The most recent was at Locking Castle Church, marking 600 days since the war started. Holy Trinity Elim, St Paul’s and several other Churches are supporting the Ukrainian Community living in Weston. There is a Ukrainian hub in Waterloo Street.
AbbeyCare Homes, a local care charity have been running coffee mornings for people living in the town centre, raising awareness and supporting the needs of the elderly.
In Crisis Sheet - CTWD once again have partnered in the production of the In Crisis Sheet – managed by Key Steps, which is a useful resource for sign-posting people in need over the winter months. Links include mental health, benefits, housing, debt and food.
2024 – as we look towards 2024, CTWD are consulting with local leaders as to our format and governance. We are keen to operate using 21st century communications and management tools and to remain relevant and responsive to the needs of our communities across Weston as well as remaining true to our mission and values.
Invitation to Pray-in 2024! - Christians from all local churches are invited to join together for ‘New Year’s Prayers for Weston’ on Thurs 11th January 2024 – 7pm as part of the St Paul’s Church ‘Encounter’ evening. We hope you can be with us!
Wishing you His richest blessings for 2024.
Emily Cumberbatch

Spectacular scenes in silk by Jacqui Parkinson
This is an astonishing display of twelve huge embroidered panels. Inspired by Genesis, the first book in the Bible, textile artist Jacqui Parkinson retells its wonderful story in a vibrant cobmination of silks, hand-dyed materials, metallic leathers, gold leaf - with eight million stitches!
Jacqui has a national reputation for spectacular, large scale work. Her exhibitons have been displayed in many cathedrals and attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors. This exhibition is touring twenty cathedrals. The panels are nearly 3m high and up to 4m wide. They start with strong elemental pieces illustrating the first 'days' of creation; then they become more complex and exuberant, as the story takes us into the Garden of Eden.
Please check Cathedral website for opening times and for occasional closures when there may be limited access.
You'll find the work eye-catching and very attractive. Children love it. And it's espicially fascinating for anyone who stitches, studying Jacqui's unique techniques close up.
